June 2012 - Coast Guard Change of Command Ceremonies of USCGC Scioto and USCGC Wyaconda & the celebration of 50 years of Service of USCGC Scioto
Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River is the largest Coast Guard Sector in the lower 48 states with an area of responsibility comprised of 11 states and 2,000 miles of commercially navigable waterways on the Upper Mississippi, Missouri, and Illinois rivers and their tributaries. The waterways system include of 33 locks and dams, 238 bridges and seven major populations centers. The sector is staffed by more than 277 Active Duty, Reserve, and Civilian personnel and has a variety of unique assets including five cutters, three marine Safety Detachments and six 25 foot Response Boats.
Representatives from Senator Tom Harkin, Dubuque River Industry leader, Mr. Brent Nissen, Master Chief of the Coast Guard, Master Chief Leavitt were in attendance.

BMCM Ellis – CGC Scioto departing for orders to USCG Sector Guam
BMCS Myers – Assuming CGC Wyaconda
